Pac-12, SEC Dominate Blue Football Through and Through Top 25

The early weeks show teams that have been the most impressive thus far, rather than ranking teams from a biased point of view.  Nevertheless, they will be volatile until the teams sort it out on the field.  The #1 factor in ranking teams is their Biggest Wins, losses are most damaging if they are to unranked teams.  This encourages teams to schedule other Top 25 teams.

How big does the Clemson win over Georgia look now?  Which is why Clemson has been the #1 team on Blue Football Through and Through ever since, and why the national polls now have them climbing closer to this poll.  Clemson still has the biggest win over the season.  Alabama and Georgia are neck-and-neck by virtue of being the only teams in the nation with two wins over Top 25 teams.

The SEC has eight teams in the Top 25, while the Pac-12 has five.  Those are (by far) the top two conferences in the nation this year.

Broncos Score Huge Commit

Boise State received the commitment of Jaylen Johnson today according to the Los Angeles Times.  It is one of the Broncos' biggest recruiting coups in their history.

Johnson (6-3, 235) has been playing linebacker at Centennial High School in Corona, California; some believe he will play defensive line at the next level.  Johnson was named All-CIF and 2nd Team All-State last season after registering 100 tackles and four sacks.

The media "experts" and football fans who believe Boise State is a "mid-major" will be surprised to know that Boise State not only beat out Oregon for Johnson, but that Johnson made his decision to go with Coach Chris Petersen and the Broncos the day after returning from a visit to Oregon.

I mentioned a recruiting coup, and I never use language unnecessarily.  Here's a list of the teams that offered Johnson a scholarship:  Oregon, Notre Dame, USC, TCU, Oregon State, Arizona State, Colorado State and Vanderbilt, plut he had interest from California, Northwestern and Ohio State.

Jaylen, we are honored to have you coming to Boise to play on the Blue.  Hopefully, you can help the Broncos win a national title during your stay here.

Travis Saxton Possibly Out for the Year

Linebacker Travis Saxton, who just earned a scholarship, hurt his knee today and it looks like he could be out for the year.  Take care of it, Travis, and get better!

Broncos Lead 63-14 with 13:08 left

Tennessee-Martin puts together a nice drive to put the score at 63-14.

Miller Ties Mike "Motor Mouse" Holton for 9th in Boise State History

Matt Miller has 5 catches at the half, and the fifth was special.  Miller now has 139 career receptions a game and a half into his junior year, tying him with a great receiver in his own right--Mike Holton.  Holton was the beneficiary of some great throws by Bronco great Jim McMillan, but he also battled injuries and was part of an amazing trio with Don and Terry Hutt.

Miller is now one catch shy of Jay Swillie and Eric Andrade for 7th place, and needs 90 receptions now to tie Austin Pettis for the Boise State record.

Boise State Leads At Half 49-7

It's a different opponent, but it's also a different Boise State team out there so far, and I point to Boise State recovering the onside kick after taking a 14-7 lead.  Petersen was looking to light a fire under his team and it was a brilliant coaching move.

Bryan Douglas With Pick 6

Boise State goes up 42-7 with 5 minutes left in the half.

Ajayi Gets Second 11-Yard Touchdown

I realize it's Tennessee-Martin and not Washington, but what has happened the last 10 minutes or so is so positive for this Boise State football team.  They look like they're having fun again and playing Bronco Brand* football.  28-7 in the 2nd.

Southwick to Miller for 6

Southwick looking very comfortable right now.  Boise State got the ball after an onside kick and let me say, what a great coaching move by Chris Petersen to wake up his team.  Joe hits Miller who dives in the end zone.  21-7.

Introducing A New Player This Year

Aaron Burks catches his first pass of the year, and it's a big one--54 yards from Joe Southwick--to put Boise State up 14-7.  Four-play, 66-yard drive.

Tennessee-Martin Comes Back To Tie

They not only get their first down of the game, but several more up and down the field for the score.  7-7 still in the first.

Broncos Get 70 Yard Drive for First Score of 2013!

A great mixture of Jay Ajayi runs, Joe Southwick keepers, and Southwick passes, with the drive culminating in an 11-yard TD run by Ajayi.

Blue Football Through and Through Top 25

We base our Top 25 solely on results--who you beat and by how much (or on the flip side, who you lost to and by how much).  Stanford, ranked in many Top 25's, is not ranked this week.  Why?  Because they haven't played a game--the teams ranked have all won a game.  Stanford will have to prove themselves.

Here we have the first Top 25 of the college football season:

Because of tonight's Florida State game, we'll release the first edition of this year's Top 25 College Football Teams tomorrow morning.
