Boise State continues its quest to win its first-ever Mountain West Conference football title against San Diego State tonight in Bronco Stadium. The Aztecs have won four straight games, matching the school's longest winning streak in the last 17 years, while the Broncos have won seven consecutive games. Saturday's game marks the only game in the nation between two teams that have each won four straight games.
San Diego State became bowl eligible for the third consecutive year with a 24-13 win over UNLV. The Aztecs controlled both the clock (34:34-25:26) and the line of scrimmage (506 yards of total offense to 300 for UNLV) in the win. Sophomore running back Adam Muema rushed for 143 yards and senior Walter Kazee ran for 105 yards and a score. Sophomore quarterback Adam Dingwell passed for 231 yards and two touchdowns to win his first start for SD State.
Muema has carried for 892 yards and scored nine rushing touchdowns this seasons. Dingwell's top target will be Gavin Escobar (30 receptions for 425 yards and five touchdowns).
Nat Berhe leads the Aztecs with 67 tackles while Jake Fely has 7 sacks and 10 tackles for loss among his 59 tackles this season.
Boise State, meanwhile, is battling injuries and suspensions at about the same time of the year they last lost on their home turf (to TCU last year). In other words, the Bronco secondary will have to make certain they don't get beat on the long ball!
This could be the game of the year in the Mountain West Conference, and no doubt Boise State will have to be its sharpest to emerge from the conflict with a victory. Kickoff is set for 8:30 tonight in Bronco Stadium.
