With the approval of the sale of public bonds by the Idaho State Board of Education to help finance the first phase of Bronco Stadium Expansion, construction will begin soon on the new football facility and additional seating.
The state-of-the-art facility will be located in the North end of Bronco Stadium. While the university strives to raise funds for the next phase of expansion, bleachers will be added that will raise the capacity of Bronco stadium over 37,000. The existing 5,200 bleacher seats will be moved to Dona Larson Park across the street on Broadway--that facility is also under construction and will be the home not only to Boise State track but high school football games in the Boise Valley.
The approval by the Idaho SBOE gives the go-ahead to purchase bleachers holding 8,500 people. In the South end zone, the bleachers will likely extend to be able to connect to one or both of the upper concourses. The North end zone bleachers will likely be rounded so as to form the basis for a future expansion of the lower bowl.
The $22 million football complex will be finished in time for the 2013 season. The facility design is for a 69,000 square-foot building that will include coaches offices, meeting rooms, a recruiting lounge, a players lounge, the Boise State locker room, an equipment room, a weight room and a training room. The school has $7 in donations and $5.5 million in potential pledges.
Bids went out this week for construction.
