Broncos Receive Commitment for 2017 Class

The Boise State football team received future help for its defense with the commitment of linebacker Riley Whimpey.  Whimpey will go on a mission and join the 2017 recruiting class.

Whimpey (6-2, 205) committed yesterday to the Fiesta Bowl champions.  He broke the existing school record of 115 tackles in a season at San Clemente High School (California) with 172 this past fall.

Boise State Receives Commitment from Defensive Back

According to sources high up in the Boise State football program, the Broncos have received a verbal commitment today.  We honestly do not know who it is, but we do know that it is a defensive back.  Speculation would be pointless, but it could be that the recruit wants to make an announcement on LOI Day.

Boise State Receives Major Commitment

The future for Boise State football just got even brighter.

Eric Quevedo, a 6-5, 285-pound offensive tackle from West Covina High School in California, accomplished the rare feat of winning Offensive Most Valuable Player honors in the Hacienda League this past season, nearly unheard of for an offensive lineman.

Quevedo visited the Boise State campus Saturday, was offered a scholarship, and committed yesterday.

The Broncos attracted Quevedo over offers from San Diego State, UNLV, and UTEP.

Boise State now has 13 commitments in their 2015 class that will be unveiled February 4 at Letter of Intent Day.

All-Time 12-Win Seasons

To be fair, college football teams began playing 12 or more games (many played 17 or more) in 1885, and most stopped in 1904.  Teams didn't resume playing 12 games (with a bowl game) un5il 1970.  For those first 26 years of the Modern Era, major college football didn't allow Boise State, so all of the other teams got a head start.  Teams only recently went to a 13-game season.

All that said, it is extremely humbling that Boise State has achieved more 12-win seasons than some of the historic programs of all-time.  Even Notre Dame, which got special consideration under the BCS system, is below Boise State.  This is not at all a knock on them, but rather it shows what the Broncos have accomplished in a relatively short time.  And of course, it would sure be interesting if the bigger conferences would accept the challenge to let Boise State play them week-in and week-out.
