If this is how good Boise State is in a half of football, imagine what they could do in a full game.


The Broncos rolled to a 27-0 halftime lead over Tulsa, a team which had scored 33 points on Oklahoma State the week before.  Then, they substituted freely, including pulling Heisman Trophy favorite Kellen Moore with a 34-14 lead shortly after the start of the second half.  Moore tossed four touchdown passes in barely over a half a day’s work and Jerrell Gavins’ superb night included two interceptions.


Tulsa finished a brutal early season stretch with games against three Top 5 teams:  Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Boise State.  Although their record is just 1-3, the Golden Hurricanes have shown well against those teams.  Now, they must focus on the Conference USA season in which they entered the year as preseason favorites.


Senior receiver Tyler Shoemaker hauled in two more touchdown passes on strikes of 26 and 6 yards from Moore, giving him six TD receptions this season.  Shoemaker was the leading receiver with five catches for 102 yards.  Mitch Burroughs had five catches for 63 and freshman Matt Miller had four for 57.  Moore added a one-yard pass to tight end Kyle Efaw late in the first half and a 10-yard scoring play to Mitch Burroughs on the first drive of the second half before putting on a baseball cap and headset to help guide backups Joe Southwick and Grant Hedrick.  Moore finished 23-29 for 279 yards and is ranked #3 in the nation in passing deficiency.


Doug Martin led the ground game with 75 yards on 21 carries, but 33 of those came on his touchdown run in the second quarter. 


Gavins now has three interceptions on the season (he picked off a pass in the season opener against Georgia) and is second in the nation in that department.  Aaron Tevis and Cedric Febis also gathered in interceptions, with Febis’ pick setting up Boise State’s last touchdown.


G.J. Kinnie played despite being bothered by a left knee injury suffered in the loss to Oklahoma State.  He finished 14-24 for 123 yards but had four interceptions.  Boise State gave up 155 yards rushing on the night, but that was a far cry from the 365 yards Tulsa gained against Oklahoma State the week before.  And most of that total came late in the game with the starters for both teams on the sidelines.
Trey Watts topped Tulsa with 60 yards rushing and a touchdown on 15 carries.  Willie Carter had five catches for 54 yards and a touchdown.


Bronco defensive linemen Tyrone Crawford and Billy Winn were both helped off the field in the first half but returned to action.  Wide receiver Chris Potter and guard Jake Broyles also left the game with injuries.  Center Thomas Byrd also missed a start for the first time in 36 games.


Boise State faces Nevada next Saturday afternoon at 1:30.  The Wolf Pack led most of the way at Texas Tech before losing a heartbreaker 35-34.  Tulsa hosts North Texas next Saturday night.
